Mohr's Circle For Plane Strain

The technique is similar to that used in the analysis of plane stress. Note that the x-axis is now instead of and the y-axis is now instead of .

Example 6
An element of a body in plane strain contracts
500 m/m along the x-axis, elongates 300 m/m in the y-direction and distorts through and angle of 600 rad. Using Mohr’s circle, determine the principal strains and show the result on a properly oriented element.
